Understanding The Basics
What Is A Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges are built using two dental crowns, which are attached to healthy teeth in your mouth. Between these two crowns, a false tooth (pontic) is suspended to “bridge” the gap created by the missing tooth. Multiple adjacent missing teeth can be replaced with a dental bridge, so this is a good option if you are missing several teeth in a row.
At Mestichelli Barnes Dental Associates, your bridge will be built out of tooth-like porcelain materials, and designed to fit perfectly onto your healthy teeth, restoring your smile, your bite, and your self-confidence.
What To Expect
The Dental Bridge Process
The process begins with a consultation at Mestichelli Barnes Dental Associates. One of our experienced South Philly dentists will examine your mouth, and discuss your options for restoring your smile, including dental bridges.
If you’re approved for a bridge, the process will begin at your next appointment. Dr. Barnes or Dr. Mestichelli will begin by cleaning and numbing your mouth. Then, they will trim away enamel from two of your teeth, which will support the bridge.
Once this process is complete, they will take impressions of your bite using dental trays, and send these impressions to a lab where your bridge will be built. This will take a few weeks, so you will be sent home with temporary crowns to protect your trimmed teeth.
After your bridge arrives at our office in 2-3 weeks, Dr. Mestichelli or Dr. Barnes will check its fit. If everything looks good, it will be bonded into place permanently using dental cement, completing the procedure and restoring your smile.
The Benefits
Of Dental Bridges
Unlike partial dentures, dental bridges are fixed in place permanently. They do not have to be removed at night, and they will never shift or move while you eat or speak, providing you with more confidence in your smile.
Dental bridges are also typically covered by dental insurance, and are relatively affordable. They also allow you to restore your smile more quickly than some other alternatives, such as dental implants. It can take 3-6 months or longer to get dental implants, but bridges can usually be made in just a few weeks.
Am I A Candidate
For Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge may be a good option for you if you would like a longer-lasting alternative to a partial denture, but you are not interested in restoring your smile with dental implant surgery. As long as you have healthy teeth that can accommodate a bridge, it may be a good option for you.
The best way to find out if you’re a candidate for dental bridges is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Michael Barnes or Dr. Bill Mestichelli at Mestichelli Barnes Dental Associates. Dr. Barnes or Dr. Mestichelli can examine your mouth and help you understand your options for restoring your smile, including dental bridges.
